San Diego to Channel Islands

Kip leaving San Diego

To date we have not had the opportunity to take any long trips on Adélia. Our sailing trips in 2005 were fairly short and all were pretty effortless. We seemed to always be going in the opposite direction of the winds which limited us to motoring to all our destinations.

We left on our first trip on Adélia on June 17th 06:15 from San Diego to Channel Islands Harbor with a one day stay at Cherry Cove, Isthmus Harbors on Catalina Island. It was clear all the way lots of Navy activity in the San Diego Harbor

We arrived at Cherry Cove at 17:30. The sun was shining and we had a perfect summer evening.

We left Cherry Cove for Channel Island harbor at 06:30 on June 19th. Again the seas were calm not to much traffic.

We encountered a cargo ship in the shipping lanes. I briefly changed course to avoid a collision as she was much bigger than Adélia. Returning on course we arrived at Channel Island at 13:30.

We had a wonderful stay at the Anacapa Isle Marina in Channel Islands. Kip, myself and Craig Watkins left Anacapa Isle at 07:30 for Two Harbors to attend the 2005 Jeanneau Rendezvous. and then on to Ensenada Mexico via San Diego where Adélia would stay until January 2006.

January 2006 Kip and I took the Surfliner train to San Diego where we caught the Red Line train to the Mexican border. We crossed on foot and took the ABC Bus Line bound for Ensenada.

After arriving at the Marina Coral we immediately set out for San Diego and points North. After a few days of strong winds and high seas we finally pulled into Bahia Marina at Channel Islands where Adélia will remain until our next departure
